This package was developed by a member of the Association of
Shareware Professionals. Capital Gainz may only be distributed as
a complete package, and only the shareware (unregistered) version
may be distributed. Printed copies of the users manual may not be
distributed. Modification of the executable in anyway is strictly
prohibited. Your efforts to put shareware into the hands of
potential users is greatly appreciated.
If you are an ASP approved vendor or BBS, then you are authorized
to carry Capital Gainz in your shareware distribution library.
All other vendors and BBS must receive either electronic or
written mail authorization to distribute Capital Gainz.
Capital Gainz can not be bundled and distributed with any other
programs. It must be distributed on its own diskette(s). Note
that this restriction prevents the inclusion of Capital Gainz on
'mega-disks' or other multi-program disks. Exceptions to this
will be made on a case-by-case basis, and requires that you first
receive electronic or written authorization.
Explicit or implicit authorization to distribute Capital Gainz
gives you permission to charge a distribution fee. However, this
fee may not exceed $6.00 per disk, or $10.00 total, for the
complete Capital Gainz shareware distribution package.
This document includes several descriptions: one line, 128
characters, 512 characters, and about one page. Please use the
one most appropriate for your catalog.
Registration:
-------------
$39.00, plus $3.50 shipping and handling
($29 without a printed users manual)
With registration, you get a 300 page bound users manual, at
least one free update, technical support, the Capital Gainz
Utility Program, and the DoublePrint utility. The Capital Gainz
Utility Program and DoublePrint are only distributed with the
registered version.

Update:
-------
Version 3.0 contains a significant number of new features. These
include: support for multiple portfolios, price updates from
ASCII files, report printing to the screen, and in-depth
performance calculations. A list of changes and new features can
be found in HISTORY.DOC. This release requires a data file
upgrade from previous versions.
Files:
------
Shareware distributions of Capital Gainz are composed of the
following files:
README.DOC
INSTALL.EXE
PROGRAM archive: CPGNZP.zzz, CGZP30.zzz, or CGZP30n.zzz
DOC archive : CPGNZD.zzz, CGZD30.zzz, or CGZD30n.zzz
VENDOR.DOC
DEMO archive : CPGNZS.zzz, CGZS30.zzz, or CGZS30n.zzz
'zzz' indicates the compression method used, such as ZIP.
The PROGRAM archive includes: CAPGNZ.EXE, CAPGNZ.HLP,
CAPGNZSH.COM, CAPGNZBU.BAT, and CAPGNZRS.BAT.
The DOC archive includes: CAPGNZ.DOC, LICENSE.DOC, OMB.ASP,
and HISTORY.DOC.
The DEMO archive includes: CGDEMO.EXE and screen libraries
CGSCR??.LBR.
If the archives are self-extracting ('zzz' is EXE), then no
unarchiver needs to be available. Otherwise, the INSTALL program
will look for the following unarchivers on the DOS PATH:
PKUNZIP or UNZIP for .ZIP archives
ARCE or ARC-E for .ARC archives
LHA for .LZH archives
Although the actual archive method is flexible, the base names of
the archives CAN NOT BE CHANGED. Also, the contents of these
archives can't be changed. If the base names or contents of these
archives are modified, INSTALL will fail. All files (excluding
VENDOR.DOC) must be included unmodified in any distribution. You
can:
(1) Put README.DOC, INSTALL.EXE, and the PROGRAM archive on
one disk, and the DOC archive, DEMO archive, and VENDOR.DOC
on another disk. Or, for disks larger than 360KB, you can
put all of the files on a single disk. (This is how we
distribute Capital Gainz.)
(2) Archive README.DOC, INSTALL.EXE, the PROGRAM archive,
the DOC archive, the DEMO archive, and VENDOR.DOC into a
main archive named CPGNZ.zzz, CGZ30.zzz, or CGZ30n.zzz. (Do
not unarchive the PROGRAM and DOC archives before creating
this archive.)
(3) Archive README.DOC, INSTALL.EXE, the DOC archive, and
VENDOR.DOC into a main archive named CPGNZ.zzz, CGZ30.zzz,
or CGZ30n.zzz. This reduces the distribution to three files:
this archive, the PROGRAM archive, and the DEMO archive. (Do
not unarchive the DOC archive before creating this archive.)
(4) Archive README.DOC, INSTALL.EXE, VENDOR.DOC, and the
files from the DOC archive into a main archive named
CPGNZ.zzz, CGZ30.zzz, or CGZ30n.zzz. This reduces the
distribution to three files: this archive, the PROGRAM
archive, and the DEMO archive. (This time, the DOC archive
is unarchived before creating this archive.) This makes
installation a bit more complicated (see the README.DOC
file), but eliminates the archive-within-an-archive.
Only BBS Sysops should use (2), (3), or (4). Disk vendors are
STRONGLY URGED to distribute Capital Gainz in format (1). If
space is a problem, you can remove the DEMO archive from the
distribution.

Hardware/Software Requirements:
-------------------------------
Computer: any IBM PC compatible can run Capital Gainz.
Monitor: any type of monitor will do. No graphics card is
required, as Capital Gainz only uses the extended ASCII character
set. On color monitors, users can customize the screen colors.
Disk Drive: Capital Gainz requires a hard drive. Without the
documentation files, the programs and approximately several years
worth of investment data require about 1MB of disk space.
Printer: a printer is not required, since reports can be directed
to the screen or a file, but one is recommended. Reports can be
generated with the extended ASCII character set, or the user can
specify to use non-line drawing characters.
Operating System: DOS 3.0 or later is suggested, as some problems
have been reported with earlier versions. The Capital Gainz Users
Manual contains instructions on running Capital Gainz with DOS
5.0, M/S Windows, and DESQview.

Tiny Description (128 characters):

Short Description (512 characters):
-----------------------------------
Capital Gainz is a portfolio manager for both small investors and
professional investment managers. Ideal for a 'dollar-cost
averaging' strategy. Record purchases, sales, dividends, capital
gains; calculate gain/loss and total return; view or print
4
information for one or more securities and over a range of dates;
reinvest dividends; record stock splits; execute sales of
multiple purchases using FIFO, LIFO, max gain, max loss, specific
ID, average cost. Hard disk, 640K, DOS 3.0. ASP Shareware, $39.
Long Description:
-----------------
Capital Gainz is an investment portfolio manager that balances
the modest needs of the small investor with the complex
requirements of the professional investment manager. It's ideal
for individual investors following a 'dollar-cost averaging'
strategy with mutual funds.
You record purchases, sales, and distributions with easy to
understand forms, and select records from scrolling tables.
You can easily record the sale of a number of different purchases
that occurred over a period. Capital Gainz allows you to sell
shares by specific identification, first-in/first-out, last-
in/first-out, maximize gains/minimize losses, minimize
gains/maximize losses, and average cost.
You can calculate a security's total return. Capital Gainz finds
the first price, last price, and reinvested distributions within
that date range to calculate a true total return figure.
You can compare a security's total return to your actual realized
performance. Capital Gainz combines your purchases, sales, and
distributions to arrive at your actual realized performance.
You can specify flexible reporting options. Capital Gainz gives
you several levels of detail and summary reports, and the ability
to restrict the information by date range and/or security. Other
reports include portfolio allocation and Schedule B and D.
You can perform powerful 'what-if?' scenarios. After you enter
how many shares to sell and the selling method to use, or select
specific shares, Capital Gainz displays a table of all affected
open shares with the associated gain or loss. You are then given
the choice of confirming or backing out of the sale.
You can easily maintain securities' price histories. Every buy
and sell transaction potentially adds an entry to the price
history, without any additional action required on your part. You
can manually add entries, change entries, and delete entries.
You can maintain up to 999 separate portfolios. All portfolio-
specific screens and reports show the associated portfolio.
5
You can keep a pool of defined securities for populating
portfolios. Capital Gainz separates securities into 'local' and
'global' entities. Local securities are specific instances of
global securities. You can associate brokers and investment
companies with securities.
Capital Gainz provides a powerful and flexible alternative to
commercial investment software - at a much lower cost!
Registration: $39 + $3.50 shipping and handling. Includes bound
users manual. ASP Shareware.
